The Board of Directors of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, Inc. (CCGNJ) announced the appointment of Luis Del Orbe as the organization’s new executive director on Tuesday.
Del Orbe has been serving as the interim executive director since November and has been with the nonprofit for seven years.
Board President Fred W. Hogan commended Del Orbe for his dedication and the inspiration he has provided during his tenure at CCGNJ.
“Luis has consistently advanced our mission,” Hogan stated. “We are confident that as executive director, he is well-prepared to lead the agency through the various challenges emerging in New Jersey’s evolving gambling landscape. He sets the best example of leadership by leading through his actions.”
Before being appointed interim executive director, Del Orbe served as CCGNJ’s Prevention and Treatment Administrator. He has recently conducted presentations on problem gambling at town halls in both northern and southern New Jersey. In anticipation of Problem Gambling Awareness Month, he is organizing a symposium titled “The Hidden Epidemic: A Public Health Concern” to be held in Trenton on March 13.
Among his notable contributions to the council, Del Orbe developed the curriculum for the Cognitive Perspective Restructuring (CPR) Program. This strength-based initiative consists of five sessions aimed at helping youth build resilience to avoid risky behaviors and plan for their futures. It has received positive feedback from school leaders and teachers where it has been implemented.
“I am honored by the trust the board has placed in me,” Del Orbe said. “I feel privileged to work alongside the Council’s exceptional staff as we tackle the increase in problem gambling in New Jersey, particularly the rise in youth betting. As we approach Problem Gambling Awareness Month, we reaffirm our commitment to addressing this significant public health issue.”
The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, Inc. is a private nonprofit organization that has provided information, education, and treatment referral services to individuals affected by gambling problems for over 40 years.
