New Jersey 2025 Governor’s Race: Key Voting Dates and Deadlines

New Jersey voters are preparing to cast their ballots in the 2025 gubernatorial election, where they will choose the state’s next governor on Tuesday, November 4. After competitive primary races earlier this year, Democrats nominated U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill, while Republicans selected former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli.

Both candidates have been traveling across the state, meeting with residents and outlining their priorities on issues such as the economy, taxes, and education. In the final weeks of the campaign, voters can expect an increase in television and digital ads, as well as campaign mailers.

Voting in New Jersey begins well before Election Day, with several options available to ensure every eligible voter can participate.

Vote-by-Mail:
Mail-in ballots were sent to registered voters starting September 20. Those who prefer to vote by mail can still apply to receive a ballot. The deadline to apply by mail is October 28, while voters can apply in person at their county election office until November 3. Completed ballots can be mailed, dropped off at designated county drop boxes, or returned directly to a county election office.

All vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, November 4, and received by county officials no later than November 10 to be counted.

Early In-Person Voting:
For those who want to vote in person before Election Day, early voting will take place from October 25 through November 2. Polling locations will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters can find their assigned early voting locations through their county election office or on the state’s election website.

Sample Ballots:
Sample ballots will be mailed to all registered voters on October 22, providing an overview of the candidates and questions that will appear on the official ballot.

Election Day Voting:
On November 4, polling places across New Jersey will open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who plan to cast their ballots in person on Election Day can locate their polling site through the New Jersey Division of Elections website or by checking their sample ballot.

Election Day also marks the final deadline for returning mail-in ballots. Voters are encouraged to check with their county officials to ensure their vote is received and counted on time.

With multiple voting options available, election officials urge all New Jersey residents to make a plan to vote early, by mail, or in person, and to verify their registration status ahead of the state’s high-profile gubernatorial election.
